Action

Metronidazole Injection is a potent antimicrobial and antiprotozoal agent. It is primarily used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa. Its key applications include:

Anaerobic Infections: Such as intra-abdominal infections (e.g., peritonitis, appendicitis), gynecological infections (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease), and dental infections (e.g., periodontitis).
Protozoal Infections: Including trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and amoebiasis.
Surgical Prophylaxis: To prevent infection in patients undergoing surgical procedures, particularly colorectal surgeries.

Dosage and Administration

Adults:Anaerobic Infections: 500 mg to 1 g intravenously every 6 to 8 hours.Trichomoniasis: 2 g as a single intravenous dose.Amebiasis: 500 mg to 1 g intravenously every 8 hours for 5 to 10 days.
Children:Anaerobic Infections: 15 to 20 mg/kg intravenously every 6 to 8 hours.Amebiasis: 15 to 20 mg/kg intravenously every 8 hours for 5 to 10 days.
Administration Notes:
The injection should be administered slowly over 30 to 60 minutes to avoid rapid infusion-related adverse effects.
Dilute the injection with an appropriate intravenous fluid (e.g., normal saline or 5% dextrose) as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Ensure the infusion is administered at room temperature.

Storage

Store Metronidazole Injection at room temperature (15-30°C).
Protect from light and keep the container tightly closed.
Do not freeze, as freezing may affect the stability and efficacy of the solution.
Discard any unused portion of the injection after administration to prevent contamination and ensure safety.
